LUDHIANA: ''It was great to see law students doing theatre, enacting an English play,'' said Vishal Batth, a second-semester law student. The Dramatics Society, under the patronage of prof Deepak Kapur, director, Panjab University Regional Centre, Ludhiana, staged a play ' 'The Romancers' ' by Edmond Rostand in the centre's auditorium on Tuesday.
A romantic comedy that has romance, adventure and conspiracy, it was directed by Dr Harpreet Kaur Vohra, assistant professor in English.

The play, which has 15 characters, revolves around two young lovers in search of romance and adventure who discover that romantic love can exist without obstacles.
It was the first play by the society since its inception in February.
The president of the society, which is a students' venture, Kushagar, a student of BA LLB, said, ''The office-bearers and members have worked tirelessly to make the show a success.''
While working on it, law students learned about production, acting, stage set up and props, among others. Dr Harpreet Kaur said, ''During the play, amateur actors very proficiently switched over to the backstage roles and vice-versa.''
Second-semester student Karnica Kumar, who played the role of Sylvette, said, ''We practised for three weeks and learnt about team work.'' Another actor Hassan Inder Hayer said, ''I played the role of Percinet. Initially, I was a bit scared. But practice and my director's faith in me made me give my best shot.''
Fourth-semester students Kanav Sharma and Saurav Bhatia, residents of Tagore Nagar, played the role of Bergamin (Percinet's father) and Pasquinot (Sylvette's father), respectively. A villain, Straforrel's role was portrayed by Shubam Garg. Others played the roles of swordsmen, musicians, torch-bearers, a notary and four witnesses, among others.
